As a factory with over a decade in cable tie production, I often get asked, “Which tie fits my project?” Here we need tailor them to industries like electronics, construction, and automotive. Let me give you a clear classification.
1. By material: Match environment & performance
Nylon 66 (PA66) ties: The all-round player (80% of our production). Tensile strength up to 500N, -40℃ to 85℃ use temp, chemical-resistant. Ideal for daily wire bundling (appliances, building wiring) with no special needs. This tie provides a lot of convenience to our daily life.
Heat-resistant nylon ties: Mainly used in high-temp scenes (car engines, industrial machinery). Modified nylon 66 boosts use temp to 120℃-150℃ (short-term 200℃), retains 70% tensile strength at high temps. Used by automakers for engine wiring.
Stainless steel ties: “Heavy-duty corrosion fighters” (304/316 steel). 304 resists outdoor rust; 316 handles saltwater/strong chemicals. For marine cables, chemical pipelines, outdoor streetlights, etc.
2. By structure: Meet installation & reuse needs
Structures solve pain points like disassembly or stability:
Standard one-way ties: Common ratchet-lock design (tighten only, cut to loosen). Light, cheap—for permanent bundling. The range is generally between: 1.8-10mm width, 100-800mm length. Of course, there are also extra large cable ties several tens of millimeters wide for heavy lifting, which our factory also produces.
Reusable ties: Detachable lock (press to release, reuse). Reduces waste—for temp needs (warehouse goods, garden plants). Made of durable/weather-resistant nylon; favored by logistics clients.
Heavy-duty ties: Thick (10-15mm) with reinforced locks. Tensile strength 800N-1200N (lifts 80-120kg). Rounded tail (no hand scratches). For construction (underground cables) and large pipes.
3. By special functions: Solve industry issues
Flame-retardant ties: Meet UL94 V-0 (self-extinguish in 10s, no dripping). For electronics (TVs, servers) and building wiring.
UV-resistant ties: Add UV stabilizers—5-8 years outdoor life (vs. 1-2 years standard). Used for solar panels, streetlights (Brag a bit here, one of our solar client’s ties work well after 6 years).
Label ties: Built-in label pockets (insert cable info). Avoids lost separate labels—ideal for data centers (streamlines maintenance).
The above is a simple classification of cable ties. With the increasing number of cable tie types on the market, it is difficult to cover the complete classification in a single article. After thirteen years of experience, our factory can produce a wide variety of cable ties and also provide custom services. If you have any needs or questions, please contact us.
